Effect of electrolytic capacitor in Led driver

Electrolytic capacitor is a bottleneck restricting the life of LED driver power supply. LED chip and power supply are arranged together, the general space is very small, poor heat dissipation, LED chip and power are the radiating body, makes the high temperature Therefore, can improve the heat dissipation condition, improve the LED luminous efficiency and power supply efficiency to reduce the environmental temperature, thereby prolonging the service life of capacitor solution, LED power supply service life increased.

Why we emphasis the electrolytic capacitors?

This is because the current operating life of the ordinary LED drive power is determined by the capacitors used in the smooth circuit of the AC/ DC exchange.We know that the working life of the led up to 40000 hours, but the life of capacitors is only a few thousand hours, due to the system life of the driver is determined by the components, if we cannot fingure out how to get rid of the electrolytic capacitor restriction , then the life of the led l driver cannot match with led, it will not play the advantages of long lifetime of led. This is why the industry people focus on researching new way removing ectrolytic capacitor from the driver system.

Why do we have to put ectrolytic capacitor in the driver?

This is because LED is driven by DC current component, when the AC power supply is switched on, the general use of rectifier and smoothing circuit of DC stabilized power supply, the electrolytic capacitor in the smoothing circuit will heating up to 10 degrees owing to the working enviroment and the ambient temperature . The capacitor life will be cut half, so we say the electrolytic capacitor hindered the life of LED lighting.

Solution: Use IC to replace electrolytic capacitor, life is 10times of former one. The lifetime can reach 40000 hours, which can match with LEDs. and this scheme is simple in design, small size, only 40% of the original driving in size, the main application is the domestic low power lighting, using range 3w~20w.

 

Disadvantages: no electrolytic capacitor output ripple is large, and the efficiency is low, PF is lower,too.

Note: in order to prolong the led dirver life, first of all, use a good capacitor or IC, and secondly, to solve the heat problem, improve the heat conduction, insulation materials, the thermal conductivity of the power can be doubled.
